EXCERPT:

Nate nods. His hand squeezes mine softly as he stares into my eyes. “I don’t know anything about your life,” he says.
“There’s a good reason for that,” I try to joke. “It’s totally boring and uninteresting. Lame, as you put it last night.”
“Hey, I didn’t say lame, I said pathetic. There’s a difference.”
“Well, thank you. That makes me feel so much better. Promoted from lame to pathetic. Awesome.”
“You’re welcome, but are we sure it’s a promotion?”
“You’re so not cool,” I say. It’s probably ironic, but I feel relaxed for the first time in a long time. A time that I’d rather not reminisce. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I don’t know anything about your life, either, Nate.”
I’ve barely finished my sentence when he leans in and plants a kiss on my lips. My relaxation vanishes. The shock paralyzes my mind. I don’t know why, but I let him kiss my lips softly for as long as he likes. His bruised cheek brushes against mine but his soft stubble doesn’t bother me.
The smell of fresh soap blends with the musk scent of his muscular body. I’m doing my best to control myself and not reach under his shirt to feel that six pack of his, but as he pushes his tongue in my mouth, I gently pull away.
“Nate, we’re in a library,” I remind him.
“So, you’re not mad?” he says, relieved somehow.
“I’m not sure what I am. It’s just inappropriate.”
“Did it feel inappropriate?” he says.
I don’t answer. I just stare at him in a way that lets him know I’m done answering his questions. I’m not ready to embark on anything new and I don’t want to lie about loving the way he kissed me. I’m in charge.
He reads my thoughts. “Hey, it doesn’t have to be complicated,” he says. “Let’s have dinner while going over our notes and creating our leaflets.”
I nod, grateful for his quick thinking and his generous effort to make things easy and simple. “That works,” I agree.
“I have some shopping to do,” he says as he gets up. “I’ll meet you in an hour back at your place.”
“Make that an hour and a half,” I say, refusing to sacrifice the precious bubble bath I’ve had in mind since leaving work.
He walks away and my heart is still racing. I find myself standing on the sidewalk outside the library not sure how I got here. Disorientation and wonderment course through my body making me light headed.
When my mind starts working again, it hungers labels for what just happened. Love at first sight or spontaneous lust or the desire to disappear from everything. Strangely, it felt safe and trustworthy. It felt like it should have happened and so I allowed it.
For the first time since Jack, my heart pounds out of control with electric curiosity. I didn’t know if that would ever happen again. I think of something I read recently, a Japanese saying: If it’s good, hurry.

Excerpt:

So began the birth of our child. Coy screamed as she pushed our baby out, and I tried to watch out for both of them, I did. I knew something was wrong though.
The umbilical cord wrapped around the baby. I looked up at Coy she was struggling. Her head lobbed forward, sweat was pouring down her face.
“Coy, you listen to me, baby girl. You can do this. Stay with me.” I didn’t want to alarm her that something was wrong with the baby but she looked up at me. Tears in her eyes.
“Save her. Please…save her.” My beautiful Coy, her small face that could practically fit in my palm of my hand, pleaded. Her eyes were slightly too big, her nose slightly crooked, her lips were full. Kissable lips that I leaned forward and pressed my own against hers. My dragon was calling out to her, screaming at her not to leave us. We needed her. I pressed my forehead to hers.
“Please don’t make me chose. Please don’t do this to me.” My breath was haggard.
“I’m not making you chose, I am not giving you a choice. Save her. Please. Love her, and make sure our child lives.” Coy moved away from me. I had never felt so far from her before. My heart was breaking and my dragon moved forward. He wanted to destroy the thing that would take away our Coy, our love. If she continued to push she would kill both of them, I couldn’t stop her from pushing.
I moved down to our child and unwrapped the cord. My hands were covered in Coy’s blood in the matter of moments. She was losing too much, too fast. I looked up at her she was pale. I knew that she wasn’t going to make it. I didn’t want to go on. I didn’t care anymore. Coy was the only good thing I had found in this world.
“Drake…”
I was so far retreated in my mind I allowed the dragon to take over this form. He turned toward the stranger and snapped his teeth but did nothing more. Something about his scent called to my dragon, comforted him enough that the rage we were feeling only moments before started to dissipate. The stranger’s eyes were on my child though.
My child. A growl ripped from my throat warning him.
“I am not here to hurt you, or her. I want to help you.”
I realized that my child was screaming in my arms. I moved the dragon over. He fought me at first snapping and whipping his tail. He wanted to be charge. I shoved past him so I could look at my child.
She. It was a girl. Tears stung my eyes. A girl. Just like Coy had said. I moved next to my dying mate. She was so weak, barely even breathing but I brought our child next to her.
“It’s a girl. You are always right. I hope you know that. I always knew you were right. She looks a lot like you. She has your face, beautiful round cheeks. She has my eyes though, a perfect mixture of you and me, just like you always said.”
The stranger watched us, but he didn’t make a sound or move. I appreciated that. In a while I would ask who he was, what he was doing here. Why he smelled the way he did. My dragon kept pushing at my mind and I almost let him through. It was becoming too hard to fight. I looked down at Coy. She had stopped moving all together when I told her it was girl. I pushed away Coy’s hair and kissed her on the forehead.

**Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content.

GENRE: Mature YA Contemporary Romance.

My thoughts:

Another wonderful Friends to Lovers story! Carrigan and Heath met as kids, and from there on, they became friends, and spent most of their childhood in each other's company. Years later, they both realized that, their feelings had changed and there was more than just 'bestfriend-y' feelings. As always, crossing the line between best friend to lovers is quite tricky and filled with uncertainty and doubts. Even though I know the couple will eventually end up together, it's the journey, the struggle as they try to find their place in a budding relationship that keeps me reading,

Forever Kinda Love is a beautiful story about young love, facing you fears and conquering them. I really enjoyed the banter between Heath and Carrigan. These two have the kind of relationship most people only dream of. If one of them is in trouble, the other drops everything and dashes to their side. The side characters were quite a treat as well, and I can't wait to read Harrington and Vincent's story.

I highly recommend this story!

A huge 5 stars!

Synopsis:

“In here,” he said, pushing on the skin above my heart, “you're ten below zero. And you’re closer to death than I am.”
My name is Parker. My body is marked with scars from an attack I don’t remember. I don’t want to remember. I choose to live my life by observation, not through experience. While people are laughing and kissing and connecting, I’m in the corner. Watching them live. I’m indifferent to everything, everyone. The only emotion I feel with any kind of depth is annoyance, and I feel it often.
A text message sent to the wrong number proves to be my undoing.
His name is Everett, but I call him rude. He’s pushy, he’s arrogant, he crowds my personal space, and worst of all: he makes me feel.
He chooses to wear all black, all the time, as if he’s waiting to attend a funeral. Probably because he is.
Everett is dying. And he’s spending his final days living, truly living. In doing so, he’s forcing me to feel, to heal. To come face to face with the demons I suppressed in my memory.
He hurts me, he fulfills me, he completes me. And still, he's dying.

Release day +Giveaway: You'll Think Of Me by Lucia Franco

Blurb:

Luke Jackson.

With his thick southern drawl and seductive charm, Luke is the country boy everyone adores. He has his future mapped out, but his plans with Olivia are suddenly derailed when she makes a decision that blindsides him, changing the path they both envisioned.

As Luke struggles to keep everything in check during a difficult time in his life, he must put his trust in the one person who broke it to begin with. The last time they saw each other, Olivia busted his heart wide open, turning him into the man he is today.

When Olivia returns to her roots, just like Luke said she would, he is shocked for more reasons than one. Nine years have passed since they've seen each other, and when their roads collide unexpectedly, Luke can only push his worry and misgivings away for so long.

Things are different now—they are strangers—and the rope that once bound Olivia's heart to South Fork, Georgia is pulling her back in, forcing her to remember how it used to be all those years ago.

Excerpt

“Nate,” she groaned with a sigh. “There can’t be anymore dates between us. I’m sorry, but this is the one and only date. I had a great time tonight, but this is it.”
“How about you let me decide that,” he said in all seriousness.
“No. We can’t. As much as I enjoyed myself tonight, this is it. No more. Don’t you see the lines we’re crossing?”
Olivia’s forehead wrinkled with concern. How was it that he didn’t have a drop of worry? Was he only thinking about himself?
“I do see that,” he said moving in closely, “but I don’t give a fuck about any imaginary lines, Olivia. I want you, and I’m pretty sure you want me too. So what’s the problem here? And don’t give me that patient/doctor shit. I told you I would switch doctors. What’s your problem? You can’t deny the chemistry between us. It’s there. It’s pulling at us both and you know it. I can read your eyes and see it. It’s been there since the day we met. Don’t deny it.”
Olivia glanced around the parking lot. Deep down she wasn’t sure if she was ready to put herself on the line again, but by the deep undertone he used, she knew Nate was fuming.
“I don’t have a problem with us. What I do have a problem with is you finding a new doctor. Dr. Thatcher is the best.”
“I understand,” he answered staring down at her, “but you diagnosed my problem and it seems like an easy one to fix at that. So I could switch doctors with no issue. Nate-3-, Livy, still 0. Go ahead. Give me another reason, Liv, and that will put me at 4 points and you 0, because you know I’ll win that one too.” He formed his fingers into a ‘0’ as he said it with a know-it-all-defensive-fucking-try-me attitude.
Shit. She was all out of reasons, not that she had many to begin with. She was holding back. Her one gripe was the fact that she was his doctor and he just blew that argument out of the water.
Olivia didn’t want to get hurt and feared she would. It was a gut feeling she didn’t want to ignore. She was afraid to be around Nate. He managed to knock down some of her walls, expose her layers so early on and she wasn’t used to it. No one other than Luke had done that to her. She knew she’d fall hard for him, but not until she was ready to on her terms. When the time came she would let go and love again.
“Stop,” he ordered.
“Stop what?”
“Stop thinking so hard,” he demanded with a drawl. “I can see it spinning in your pretty brown eyes.” He was just an inch away from her now and breathing down on her.
“I see what you’re doing, finding ways to say no,” he whispered. “You’re so easy to read, Liv. I know you already in this little amount of time. I paid attention to you, your body. Your incredibly sexy body that I want so, so fucking bad…” Nate trailed off, growling under his breath as he slid an arm around her lower back and pulled her up against him.
“Stop looking for an out,” Nate insisted.
“Nathaniel,” she whispered. “I can’t.”
“Says who? You? You’re the one fighting me on it right now, Liv. Don’t tell me you don’t feel it between us. Just let go and give us a damn try.”
