Book Review: The Wager by Rachel Van Dyken

THE WAGER

Lose a bet, lose your heart...

What is it about a junior-high crush that can send an otherwise intelligent woman into a tailspin? TV reporter Char Lynn wishes she knew. Jake Titus is too rich, too handsome, too arrogant: a trifecta that once lured Char into the best night-and worst morning-after-of her life. Now they've been thrown together in a wedding party. It's awkward, but survivable . . . until Jake stops acting like a jerk, and starts acting like the man she'd always hoped he could be.

If watching your brother marry your best friend is weird, being attracted to your best friend's other best friend is downright bizarre. Unfortunately for Jake, Char hasn't forgotten how he once tossed her aside. Worse still, Jake's already-nutty grandma is even crazier about Char. Cue meet-cute shenanigans and all manner of meddling, and somehow, Jake's falling. For Char. Now all he has to do is make her believe it . . .

My Thoughts:

**I received the ARC through Netgalley**

I loved The Bet! So when I heard Ms Van Dyken was releasing another book in the series, I was on board! Such a wonderfully written friends-to-lovers story. This one follows Jake, our über-rich playboy. The characters and the story are perfect. We also get to meet Travis and Kacey.. YAY!! The romance and swoon moments in this story? Awesome!! Grandma is still up to her antics, but this time she's out to ruin her grandson. Make him see the error of his ways. Then we meet Char, Jake's high school best friend. She's such a great character, who's gone through a lot in her life. There were several sweet/steamy moments between these two, even though half the time she wanted to strangle Jake. I'm so happy this story was about Jake because was a total jerk in the first book, but once we got to see the world through his eyes, I really felt for the poor guy. I'm really looking forward to reading more in this series. If you love chuckling all the way to a great HEA, I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to see what Grandma is upto in the next one!

I'm not sure if the link is up on Amazon, I couldn't find it.

Book Review: The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

Book description:

"I have a proposition for you..."
Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. Instead, she made a deal with the devil in hopes of putting her past behind her once and for all.
Four days.
She could do four days!
But she wasn't counting on Jake’s older brother Travis being there to witness their farce of an engagement.
One thing is for certain.
One brother is right for her.
One wants a lifetime.
And one is in league with the devil.
She should have gotten Jake’s signature in blood.

Ooh I enjoyed reading The Bet! :) The prologue was enticing enough for me to click the 'Buy' button on Amazon.
Kacey grew up around Jake and Travis. During their college years, she was involved with Jake. Only to realise he wasn't who she thought he was. On the other hand, Travis, poor young Travis just hovered in the background searching for ways to impress young Kacey. He knew Tracey loved princess stories, but how was one supposed to be a prince when there were no dragons to slay? - Travis words, not mine. So he resulted to causing trouble for Kacey so he could save her. And most of those antics backfired completely. Worst thing was, Kacey hated him for that, and to her, Travis was Satan himself.
Now all grown up, Kacey's come back home in pretense that she is Jake's fiancee, and meets Travis. His feelings for Kacey have intensified over the years.

Aw...this is a wonderful story. The dialogue was pure classic - loved it!

Rachel Van Dyken did a great job with this story and characters. If you're looking for a sweet friends-to-lovers (more enemies to lovers story) with a HEA, I highly recommend 'The Bet'.
