My thoughts:

In Saving Mary, Deidre, who is half-Irish half Indian has gone through alot and seen alot growing up. Not only did spirits follow her around, have disturbing dreams, she also dealt with her dad who was alcoholic, and later on her parents divorce.

The memoir takes you on a journey from her younger years to adulthood, the strength it took going through everything happening in her life.

Deidre vivid description, writing style draws the reader into the story. The fact that she experienced all that, and got enough courage to write about her experience is very commendeble. This memoir is not a light read, and I'd recommended it to the strong at heart.   

 

Deidre Havrelock:

Deidre D Havrelock grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where she eventually met her husband to be, DJ. It was DJ who initially noticed Deidre’s dark state and worked to seek out someone willing to perform her exorcism. Eventually, the newlyweds found their way to the southern hot spot of Brooks, AB where Deidre began writing. From there the family trekked across eastern Canada to Moncton, NB where they learned to love French fries with cheese curds and gravy. Currently nestled in the hills of Kennewick, Washington, Deidre has two horses, one dog, three cats and too many rabbits…and let’s not forget her wonderful husband and three energetic daughters. Friday Fantastic Feature: Author Sherry Foley

Today I have the pleasure of having Sherry Foley here on my blog. She is the author of adult romantic suspense Switched In Death.

Thank you, I’m excited to be here. I live in Kansas City with my husband and three teenagers. I’ve been writing for eight years. My mentor is the fabulous Shannon K. Butcher.

What book title are you currently promoting? 

SWITCHED IN DEATH

What genre does the book belong to?

Mystery/Romantic suspense

I read the book summary in Goodreads, and was intrigued. This is a must-read for me.  How did you come up with the book title?  

Oh, thank you. The serial killer in the story kills two women at a time and switches their heads. My working title was SWITCHED IN DEATH and my publisher loved it.

Let’s talk about the main character in Switched In Death. Tell us a little about  Detective Seth Banning. (I love the name Seth) How old is he?

Seth is actually my son’s name. He asked me once if I thought I might ever name a character after him. The detective in his early 30’s. He is bound by his honor and committed to making women feel safe again by stopping the killer.

 How difficult was it creating this character?  

Not hard at all. I’ve listened to friends over the years talk about what they want in a man and captured those qualities on paper.

How difficult was it doing the research for this project?

I had to research some of the medical evidence but found it fascinating. The hard part was making myself stop to write the story.

Are you working on any other project at the moment?

 I have another book, A CAPTIVE HEART, coming out in November. I’m currently writing a detective series.

What do you do when you are not writing?

Reading, gardening, and thinking about the next book I’m going to write.

Dreaming Elusive Scene Solution

Last evening after the kids went to bed, I perched myself on my seat in front of my laptop to work on my daily word count for my YA fantasy. I sat. And sat, staring at the screen blankly, trying to sort out the scene which I meant to write for that day. My staring changed to frustrated glaring.

A while back when I outlined the story,  everything had been so clear, but for some reason, I couldn't really see the scene as I had imagined it before.  Being on my feet the whole day at my day job, and my brain screaming "I'm tired leave me alone" wasn't helping either.

I sighed, shut my laptop, snatched my kindle from my worktable and headed to bed.


As I lay in bed, I began analysing what the problem was, why that particular scene was giving me a problem. in between lying awake and my eyes fluttering shut, I began running the story's outline in my head (my kindle forgotten) up to the end of the story, but still had a problem with how to tackle that particular scene. So with that part of the story in mind, I finally drifted off to sleep.

In the morning, I had the full scene sequentially figured out. I could see how the chapter begins and how it ends - It's something sad that happens to my MC, and probably why my brain couldn't handle sad and tired simultaneously the evening before. Maybe I dreamt about it as I clutched onto the elusive scene, and the last threads of consciousness before falling asleep. I can't remember. One thing is for sure. I'm as happy as a bee.. :D
